End of beta for Android
TL;DR:
The Android beta program is drawing to a close and the upcoming V0.18 Beta release is expected to be the final one. Your participation in the beta has been greatly appreciated.
There are some important actions beta users should take before 1 March 2023 to be able to continue using Behayve for free in the transition to the official release of Behayve to the Play Store.
Details
Existing beta users are entitled to continue using all functions of Behayve for free, including official Play Store releases in the future.
To ensure this happens automatically, users must make sure they have installed and run Behayve V0.15 Beta, V0.16 Beta or V0.17 Beta before installing either the upcoming V0.18 Beta release or the subsequent offical Play Store release. The latter will be designated V3.1 (not V1.0), to align with the equivalent iPhone version.
Note: To see the version number, select About on the home page menu.
Before installing V0.18 Beta or V3.1, it is also essential to save away a backup of the database, using Maintenance > Export database from the home page menu. (In some cases, this backup may be needed later, to restore data or free access.)
From the release of V0.18 Beta onwards, Behayve will continue to be a free app, with most features enabled. Users will be offered inexpensive in-app subscriptions or purchases to gain access to certain features such as export to spreadsheet, GIS and KML. However, only new users will be charged to access these features.
It’s recommended to install V0.18 Beta once available.
Once V3.1 is released, the Play Store will offer it to beta users.
Timeline
We plan to release V0.18 Beta on 1 March 2023, and the official Play Store V3.1 on 15 March 2023.
V0.17 Beta and V0.18 Beta will expire on 1 April 2023.
Support
Should you experience any difficulty in retaining free access, please contact support and we'll be glad to help.
Please pass this advisory to colleagues who may not have registered and would be unaware. Users who have not already registered should do so to ensure future free usage.
Finally
A portion of revenues will go to Living Ocean and the remainder to our volunteer developers of many years to partially defray their substantial out-of-pocket expenses in bringing the app to you. If you would like to support their work and help ensure Behayve’s longevity, please consider taking out a subscription in the new 3.1 version. It’s not expected, but certainly will be appreciated.
